Trump confisca importações de pneus europeus

A Alfândega e Proteção de Fronteiras dos Estados Unidos suspendeu a importação de pneus fabricados na Sérvia e ordenou a apreensão de todos os carregamentos desses produtos nos portos americanos. A decisão foi tomada após investigações que indicaram que os pneus da empresa Linglong, produzidos na cidade de Zrenjanin, estariam sendo fabricados sob condições de trabalho forçado.

A avaliação feita pela Alfândega foi baseada em relatos de trabalhadores, documentos, fotografias, e estudos de organizações não governamentais. As evidências apresentadas incluíram práticas como a retenção de documentos de identidade, intimidação, condições de trabalho abusivas, e exploração de trabalhadores. O comissário da Alfândega, Rodney S. Scott, afirmou que os Estados Unidos não aceitam trabalho forçado nas cadeias de suprimentos.

A empresa Linglong Tire, cuja sede é na China, inaugurou sua primeira fábrica na Europa em setembro de 2024, com investimento significativo financiado por Pequim. A fábrica foi alvo de críticas desde sua construção, incluindo uma greve de trabalhadores vietnamitas que protestaram contra práticas inadequadas de recrutamento. No início de 2024, foram reportados casos de trabalhadores indianos que teriam enfrentado condições de trabalho forçado.

As autoridades sérvias e a Linglong negaram as acusações, alegando que qualquer problema de trabalho forçado estaria relacionado a subcontratadas da empresa. O Parlamento Europeu também se manifestou, solicitando investigações sobre acusações de tráfico de trabalhadores vietnamitas.

Adicionalmente, um relatório do Departamento de Estado dos EUA indicou que a Sérvia não avançou substancialmente nas investigações sobre as práticas trabalhistas em questão. O país possui um acordo de livre comércio com a China e é considerado candidato à adesão à União Europeia, mas tem sido criticado pela falta de supervisão das atividades das empresas chinesas em seu território.
