Testes de pneus em Jacarepaguá mostram favoritos de 1986

A pré-temporada da Fórmula 1 de 1986 aconteceu sob o forte calor do Autódromo de Jacarepaguá, no Rio de Janeiro, em um cenário bem diferente do atual. Naquele ano, não havia as rígidas restrições que existem hoje para os testes, permitindo que as equipes trabalhassem de maneira mais livre. A TVE do Rio de Janeiro produziu uma matéria sobre os populares “testes de pneus”, apresentando repórteres como Sérgio du Bocage e Tino Marcos, que mostraram a rotina das equipes.

Os mecânicos, vestindo bermudas e sem camisa, trabalhavam de forma descontraída, longe do rigor e da formalidade que se observa hoje em dia. Entre as equipes destacadas estavam McLaren, Williams, Lotus, Ferrari e Brabham, todas apontadas como favoritas para a temporada.

O francês Alain Prost, que pilotava pela McLaren, se consolidou como um dos principais competidores e acabou se sagrando campeão daquela temporada, garantindo seu segundo título consecutivo. Especificamente, a disputa interna da Williams, que contava com os pilotos Nigel Mansell e Nelson Piquet, foi um fator crucial nesse campeonato. Mansell ficou em segundo lugar no final do ano, enquanto Piquet terminou em terceiro.

Na pré-temporada, Piquet foi entrevistado sobre suas expectativas, falando sobre seu primeiro ano na Williams e o novo carro da Brabham, que era sua antiga equipe. Ele começou a temporada com o pé direito ao vencer a prova inaugural, realizada em Jacarepaguá, em 23 de março de 1986. Nesta corrida, o brasileiro Ayrton Senna, que corria pela Lotus, terminou em segundo lugar, enquanto Jacques Laffite, da Ligier, fechou o pódio em terceiro.

Ayrton Senna, em seu terceiro ano na Fórmula 1, também foi ouvido na matéria. Ele comentou não apenas sobre seu carro, a Lotus, mas também sobre os desafios do novo projeto da Brabham, desenvolvido pelo engenheiro sul-africano Gordon Murray. A Brabham, que tinha grandes expectativas, acabou decepcionando ao longo da temporada. O modelo revolucionário BT55, que prometia muito, se tornou um fracasso. Um acontecimento trágico ocorreu em 15 de maio de 1986, quando o piloto Elio de Angelis morreu em um acidente durante um teste no circuito francês de Paul Ricard, devido a um incêndio no carro.

Ao longo da temporada de 1986, a equipe Williams se destacou, conquistando nove vitórias em total – cinco com Piquet e quatro com Mansell. A McLaren, com Prost, obteve quatro vitórias, enquanto Senna garantiu duas vitórias pela Lotus, e Gerhard Berger conquistou sua primeira vitória na Fórmula 1, assim como a primeira da equipe Benetton, que havia comprado a Toleman.

A temporada de 1986 é lembrada por suas emoções e surpresas, além de ser um marco na carreira dos pilotos brasileiros e nas histórias das equipes.
